Ashley Watlington Simms was born and raised in Greensboro, NC. Upon graduating from Dudley High School continued on to Western Carolina University where she majored in Business Administration and Law. While in college, Ashley maintained full time employment as a certified nursing assistant providing aid to the elderly and sick. During this time, Ashley also maintained part time employment as a Nurse Technician plus 3 at Wesley Long Community Hospital. At times, she balanced working a full time job, part time job and work study job while in college taking the maximum credit hours allowed. Some weeks, she worked over 60 hours and still graduated with her undergraduate degree in 3 years maintaining above a 3.0 GPA.
Upon graduating from WCU she forged on to Charlotte School of Law where she received her Juris Doctor in 2.5 years. During Law School, she served as a Judicial Clerk to the Honorable District Court Judge Elizabeth Trosch and The Honorable District Court Judge Charlotte Brown. While working with Judge Trosch, Ashley was instrumental in the development of the ICAN program that provided career support and development to children that have been exposed to the Juvenile Justice program and adjudication. Ashley also was selected as a Martin Luther King Jr. Summer Intern for Legal Aid and worked to provide legal assistance to those individuals that were below poverty level. Under the direction of her supervising attorney, Ashley represented a client in an unemployment hearing and received a favorable result.
Currently, Ashley serves Guilford County as an Assistant District Attorney. She has held this position for 6 years and is currently seeking the appointment of the Governor to the District Court Judge seat vacated by the recent passing of the Honorable Judge Thomas Jarrell.
People are my Passion. I have a dedication to uplift this community through the adequate administration of justice. I have served Guilford County as an Assistant District Attorney for the past 5 years. Prior to this, I was employed for some time as a Nurse Technician Plus 3 for Wesley Long Community Hospital. I have previously volunteered at Kindred Hospital, Black Child Development, Tobacco Reality Unfiltered, Habitat for Humanity Restore and Greensboro Urban Ministry.
Community Dedication. I was born and raised in Guilford County, NC and have a dedication to this local community. While in High School, I was selected as a George E. Simkins Scholarship Recipient awarded by the Gate City Golf Foundation. I was also selected as a Summit Rotary Club Cadet of the Year in 2007. My number one goal has always been to uplift the community that uplifted me, Guilford County.
Public Servant. I previously worked for the Cone Health Network at Wesley Long Community Hospital. I achieved my Certified Nursing Assistant licensure through High School and used this licensure to support myself while obtaining my undergraduate degree at Western Carolina University. I have worked at several long term care facilities and hospitals providing aid to the sick and elderly.
Hard Worker. I have worked hard to achieve every goal that I have set in life. While in High School, I secured employment at a local fast food restaurant and worked 30 plus hours a week, was enrolled in AP/Honors Courses and was involved in various extracurricular activities. While in College, I worked a Full Time job as a Certified Nursing Assistant, a work study job and maintained above a 3.0 GPA. At times, I worked over 60 hours per week and managed 18 credit hours each semester so that I could receive my undergraduate degree within 3 years. I am a first generation law school graduate and graduated in 2.5 years.
